To showcase the DoE program, Chrysler dropped the gen-7 turbine into the car shown here, an extensively restyled 1977 LeBaron coupe. Based on the company's M-body platform, the LeBaron concept featured a 112.7-inch wheelbase, a curb weight of 3884 lbs, and coupled the gas turbine to a three-speed automatic Torqueflite transmission.

On May 14, 1963, at the Essex House hotel in New York City, Chrysler unveiled a turbine car that wasn't a prototype. It was the first of a 50-car run of identical, shimmering-bronze.

The first concept to come out of Engel's studios was the famed Turbine, which debuted on 14 th May, 1963. The Turbine was a soaring tribute to Chrysler's renowned technical prowess and new found design direction. The bronze painted automobile was a sensation and generated plenty of free media for Chrysler.

The Turbine Engine. The real innovation in the Chrysler Turbine Concept was the engine. It featured the fourth-generation of the company's research into liquid-fueled turbine engines and could run at up to 44,500 revolutions per minute. It was capable of burning diesel fuel, unleaded gasoline, kerosene, vegetable oil, or even JP-4 jet fuel.
